Hi & Sat Sri Akal ਸਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ Friend! I’m hopeful you are keeping well as we cycle further into Spring 2024! I’m so pleased to share Fast & Fierce: Halifax Women’s Fitness Book Club. Bringing together literature enthusiasts and fitness aficionados in Halifax-K’jipuktuk, Nova Scotia on Mi’kmaw Treaty Territories this unique Halifax Women’s Book Club combines the joys of reading with community of women interested in health, fitness, and wellness.
With each meeting, participants delve into captivating narratives, the latest science, and cultivate a supportive community centered around wellness and intellectual growth. Fast-paced and empowering, this Halifax Women’s Book Club offers an innovative approach to nurturing both mind and body.
This book club is for women who:
Are based in Halifax, Nova Scotia (in intersection with all sexualities, sexes, religions, racialized identities, ages, etc.)
Already have a fairly regular fitness routine and practice (at least 2 years)
Interested in engaging in friendly conversation about our own experiences and experiments
Can commit to reading one book a month and the in-person meeting dates
Can pay $30 and intentionally circulate money for a 7-month book club + the cost of the books (many are available at the library as well).
This book club is not for discussing: losing weight, fatphobia, eating restriction, etc. The intention is to focus on fitness from a place of self-love rather than self-hatred.

June 21, 2024 (Friday): Quantum Body by Deepak Chopra
July 26, 2024 (Friday): Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto by Tricia Hersey
August 23, 2024 (Friday): Fit at Mid-Life: A Feminist Fitness Journey by Samantha Brennan and Tracy Isaacs
September 27, 2024 (Friday): No Sweat: How the Simple Science of Motivation Can Bring you a Lifetime of Fitness by Michelle Segar
October 25, 2024 (Friday): Grit by Angela Duckworth
November 29, 2024 (Friday): Endure by Alex Hutchinson
Location: Downtown Halifax ~ Likely at Taq’s House or a Local Café
Time: Fridays from 6:30 - 7:30 pm Atlantic Time
